T-Minus Two Days

Packing books
Is an art, like everything else.
I do it exceptionally well.

When I moved into my apartment, I moved all of my books myself. C was mad at me, and I didn’t want his help, anyway.

There are a lot of books. I was an English major in college, and my reading habit has only grown more voracious. I’ve heard tales of people giving their books away to Goodwill or selling them to used bookstores, but I can’t quite comprehend this concept. My books are my babies. Each one is well-loved, with a cracked spine and underlined words, sentences, paragraphs with the occasional marginalia. Each one represents a specific moment in time. A precious moment. The moment I read a book for the first time. You can never read a book for the first time twice.

With one single broken-down box, I carried each load to my car, dumped it into my trunk, then went to get another. It took a long time. And as I drove to my apartment, the rear of my car nearly scraped the ground. I took a picture to commemorate the ridiculousness.

Packing Books

And then I dumped all the books off at my apartment with the same single broken-down box, trip after trip. Alone. Well, alone except for my dog, of course.

Books Floor

Last night I packed up my books for the second time in nine months. This time neatly into five small boxes, fitting the books in like puzzle pieces and sealing each box with packing tape. This time a group of paid workers are going to do the hauling, not me.

Which is good, because this time I’m not nearly as motivated to move.

Books Boxes

When I came home for lunch, I found that my dog had chewed up the tape dispenser. He seems about as motivated to move again as me.

This will be all kinds of random, but every time I see your blog title in my favourites I read it as “be in love with your WIFE” and I’m all what the funk is this? And then I realize it is you. Lovely you. And it makes my day 🙂

Why go if you are filled with such trepidation?

I also the first time thought it was “be in love with your wife” and I was like, “whoa.”

    I’m glad you’re back.

    Good luck with the move.

That is one cute ass dog. However, if I had a camera I would show you cute pictures of my dog today….Not the same kind as I have shown you before of my dog (you know, the porn)
